London Fashion Week- Day 1

With a fabulous end to fashion week in New York, London fashion week (yesterday), officially begun.

Kicking off on the 16th,the capital will be taken over by catwalks; parties and street style from all over the globe as we wait patiently too see what we will be wearing next season. Natural and unexpected special effects were displayed however as the great British weather treated us to a show of its own, marking day 1 with a bang!

Coincidence or not, one of the first presentations on schedule was that of Aquascutum’s, a Mayfair founded brand whom is well known for its raincoats. “An elegant scene with elaborate textures and vivid colours, heavily inspired by Helmut Newton the tableau has a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’.” The collection has 20 feminine looks, which were all designed by young British designer Kasha Crampton who brought a fresher and sexier look to the classic brands Spring 17 collection.

Domineered by young talent, designers like Ryan Lo and Ashley Williams displayed their collection today also, on vivid and eccentric catwalks that I just love!

“Nothing scarier than a clown”, Carrie Bradshaw has yet to encounter those of Ryan Lo’s. Not the average clown- Lo’s inspiration came from Venetian harlequins and court jesters it featured oversized hats, froufrou and a dazzle of glitter, these are the “out there” clothes that not many would brave to wear in the city, but would like hanging in their closets to just look at. Madness it may seem, but in reality it was a beautiful, girly and elegant runway with a touch of sparkle.ryanlo8

‘Real cool clothes for real cool people’ – the name of Ashley Williams Spring 17 collection. Making a huge impact in the fashion industry since her SS15 debut, Ashley had the likes of Alexa Chung and Mary Charteris on the front row. Bubble gum pink hair, mullets and buzz cuts, there was definitely an 80’s vibe. A catwalk filled with children’s playroom furnisher and colourful balloons added that extra unique touch. “We wanted to do things that were actually wearable, and the idea was: how you want to dress everyday, but you can’t really be bothered!” Said by Williams herself; this collection can easily be imagined out on the streets of London, being worn by ordinary people.

As day 1 has been and gone (and day 2 is nearly over), I can’t wait to write about the designers that have showcased their Spring 17 collections today. I have been watching the live streams from today – like many and am so, so excited to share designers such as Julien Macdonald, Jasper Conran and House of Holland’s collections with you tomorrow!
